N.J.A.C 5:70-3, 319.10.3 requires that liquified propane gas (LP-gas) containers and fuel-gas piping systems be inspected annually by an approved inspection agency or a company registered with the U.S. Department of Transportation to requalify LP-gas cylinders. An approved inspection agency includes plumbers licensed pursuant to N.J.A.C. 13:32. The purpose of this inspection is to ensure the system components are free from damage, suitable for the intended use, and not subject to leaking. The approved inspection agency must affix a tag onto the system indicating the name of the agency, including license number and the date of satisfactory inspection.

N.J.A.C. 5:70-3, 319.8.5 requires that food preparation vehicles containing LP-gas must be provided with an LP-gas alarm; N.J.A.C. 5:70-3, 319.9.4 food preparation vehicles containing compressed natural gas (CNG) must be provided with a methane alarm. These alarms must be installed in the vicinity of the system components in accordance with the manufacturers instructions.

The inspector will conduct a fire safety inspection of the unit to verify that the life safety features comply with the State of New Jersey Uniform Fire Code. This includes but is not limited to the hood suppression system having a valid semi-annual certificate. A passing copy of the inspection report will need to be provided at the time of the inspection application.

Effective October 15, 2024, the New Jersey Division of Fire Safety updated the State Fire Prevention Code to the International Fire Code 2018, New Jersey Edition. This update includes a section specific to "Mobile Food Preparation Vehicles," located in Chapter 3, Section 319. You are required to complete an application (click here for copy) and return it to our office located at 1800 Burlington Avenue, Delanco NJ 08075 at least 10 days prior to each operational setup of your unit. If sending via mail, send to: Delanco Fire Official, P.O. Box 5021, Delanco, NJ 08075. Payment is $54.00 and it can be made by cash, check, or money order payable to Delanco Fire District #1.
